How much do I get with the Psychologist Bonus?

The amount depends on ISEE: up to €1,500 with ISEE under €15,000 (max 30 sessions), up to €1,000 with ISEE 15,000-30,000 (20 sessions), up to €500 with ISEE 30,000-50,000 (10 sessions). Each session is covered for €50.

When does the 2026 call open?

In previous years (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) the call opened between March and May. For 2026 a similar window is expected (April-May), but exact dates are set by ministerial decree. Check inps.it and salute.gov.it for updates.

Do I need a medical diagnosis to apply?

No. The bonus is designed to address anxiety, depression, stress and psychological fragility. No diagnosis or medical prescription is needed: just ISEE under the threshold and Italian residence.

Can I change psychologist during treatment?

Yes. If you're not comfortable you can stop and choose another professional from the INPS list, as long as the bonus code hasn't expired (270 days). Sessions already completed aren't refunded, but you can use the remaining credit with the new psychologist.

Is the Psychologist Bonus compatible with other health benefits?

Yes. It's cumulable with 19% IRPEF deduction on health expenses (only for the portion not covered by the bonus), health ticket exemption, National Health Service services. Not cumulable with other specific bonuses for the same session.

What happens if I don't use the entire bonus within 270 days?

The code expires and remaining credit is lost. That's why it's important to plan sessions from the start: €1,500 means 30 sessions, about 1 per week for 7 months. You can't request extensions or renewals.

Step-by-step procedure

Check you have a valid ISEE

The key requirement is an ISEE below €50,000. If you don't have one or it's expired, request it immediately: on inps.it with SPID (pre-filled DSU, free) or via a CAF. Without a valid ISEE the application is rejected. The current ISEE takes 10-15 days.

Watch the deadline: ISEE is valid until December 31 of the issuing year.

Wait for the INPS call to open

The bonus is requested only during an annual time window set by ministerial decree. For 2026 the window should be April-May. Check the INPS and Ministry of Health websites for exact dates. Applications are not chronological: first-day applicants have the same priority as last-day ones.

The ranking favours lower ISEE, not first-come applicants. So there's no rush.

Submit the application on the INPS website

Log in to inps.it with SPID or CIE. Search "Contributo sessioni psicoterapia" in the "Benefits" section. Fill in the form: personal details, ISEE declaration, Italian residence confirmation. At the end download the receipt with the protocol number.

You can also apply through a patronage office (CAF, ACLI, INCA) free of charge.

Check the outcome and receive the bonus code

After the call closes, INPS publishes the ranking. Access your file on inps.it to see the outcome. If admitted you receive a unique 15-digit code to give to the psychologist. The code is valid for 270 days (about 9 months): you must complete the sessions within that time.

If not admitted, you can try again the following year. The bonus is refinanced yearly.

Choose the psychologist and start sessions

On the INPS portal you'll find the list of participating psychotherapists, filterable by city and type (children, adults, couples, etc.). Contact your chosen professional and provide your code. The bonus covers €50 per session: if the fee is higher, you pay the difference. INPS pays the psychologist directly after each session.

Not all psychologists participate: always check they're on the official bonus list.
