Voluntary resignation
Since 2016, voluntary resignations must be submitted via the telematic procedure on the cliclavoro.gov.it portal. A written letter to the employer is no longer sufficient. This rule applies to private sector employees. It was introduced to combat blank resignation forms. Blank resignation forms are null and void.

Step-by-step procedure
1
Log in to cliclavoro.gov.itGo to cliclavoro.gov.it and log in with SPID. Find the Resignations and consensual terminations section. The portal is managed by the Ministry of Labour.
Alternatively you can authorise a patronage office, CAF or labour consultant to submit the form for you, for free (patronage) or for a fee.
2
Complete and submit the telematic formEnter your employment details (employer, contract type, start date), the resignation effective date and the notice period. The system automatically sends the notice to your employer and the Local Labour Inspectorate.
Resignations submitted during pregnancy or in the first 3 years of the child's life must be validated by the Labour Inspectorate.
3
Serve the notice periodThe notice period is set by your collective agreement and your length of service. During notice you continue working normally. Your employer can release you from all or part of the notice period, paying the corresponding indemnity.
If you leave without serving the notice period, your employer can deduct the substitute indemnity from your severance pay.
4
Collect TFR and final documentsYour employer must pay you the TFR (severance pay) and provide: CU (Unique Certification), last payslip, DS22 form for possible NASPI and a reference letter if requested. TFR payment timelines depend on the collective agreement.
Note: those who resign voluntarily are generally not entitled to NASPI unemployment benefit, except for resignations with just cause (e.g. mobbing, unpaid wages).
