Can I get an emergency passport?

Yes, if you have a flight within the next few days or a documented emergency. Submit the request directly at the Questura counter with travel documentation (airline ticket, hotel booking, etc.).

Is the passport valid as an ID in Italy?

Yes, the passport is a valid identity document in Italy and worldwide. For EU/Schengen countries, the ID card is sufficient.

Passport for minors: how does it work?

It must be requested by both parents (or guardian). The birth certificate and written consent of the other parent are required if only one parent attends. Valid for 5 years up to age 18.

Step-by-step procedure

Book an appointment on Agenda Passaporti

Go to passaportonline.poliziadistato.it and book an appointment at the nearest Questura or Commissariato. The portal is called "Agenda Passaporti".

Appointments fill up quickly. Check the portal often, including at night.

Prepare and pay the fees

Buy the €73.50 revenue stamp at a tobacconist. Pay the €42.50 postal order online (poste.it) or at the post office. Payable to: "Ministero dell'Interno".

Go to the Questura on the day of your appointment

Bring all the listed documents. The officer collects fingerprints and signature. They will give you a receipt with the case number.

Arrive a few minutes before your scheduled time.

Collect your passport

You can collect it in person at the Questura (free) or have it delivered to your home by courier (fee applies). You can track the status on the Agenda Passaporti portal using your case number.
