Voter registration card request
The voter registration card is a free document issued by your local municipality that allows you to vote. Italian citizens who have just turned 18, or who are registering their residence for the first time, must request it in person at the electoral office. The card shows your polling station number and is usually handed over on the same day.

Step-by-step procedure
1
Confirm you are enrolled on the electoral rolls
Italian citizens are automatically enrolled on the electoral rolls of their municipality of residence when they turn 18. If you have recently moved, complete the change of residence first: electoral enrolment follows automatically within 35 days.
You can verify your enrolment by calling the Electoral Office or through the municipality's online portal if available.
2
Go to the Electoral Office
Go to the Electoral Office of your municipality of residence (usually within the registry office). In most municipalities no appointment is needed: you can go directly during opening hours.
In the days immediately before an election, the office may also open on Saturdays, Sundays and in the evening.
3
Present your identity document and tax code
The clerk verifies your electoral roll enrolment, fills in the issue form and registers the request. Issuance is completely free of charge.
4
Collect your voter card
The card is issued free of charge and in most cases is handed over immediately at the desk. In some municipalities it may be posted to your registered address within a few working days.
If you need to vote urgently and have not yet received the card, the municipality can issue a temporary substitute certificate valid for that election.
