Italian citizens born abroad and foreign nationals who apply for Italian documents (citizenship, marriage, etc.) often need to have their foreign birth certificate transcribed in the Italian Civil Registry records. Transcription can be done through the Italian Consulate in the country of birth or directly at the municipality of residence in Italy.
