Netflix refund for price increase or changed terms
Netflix has raised prices multiple times and changed service terms (shared account restrictions, ad-supported tiers) without explicit user consent. The Italian Consumer Code requires subscription service providers to notify changes with at least 30 days notice and grant free withdrawal rights. If they didn't, you are entitled to a refund.

What you need
- ✓Netflix subscription confirmation email (start date and amount)
- ✓Screenshot or email of the price change notification from Netflix
- ✓IBAN or payment card details used for the subscription
Step-by-step procedure
1
Check your refund entitlementYou are entitled to a refund if: (a) the price increased and you received less than 30 days advance notice; (b) service terms changed materially (shared password restrictions, ads introduction) without your explicit consent; (c) the service had significant unreported outages.
Art. 33 of the Italian Consumer Code prohibits unilateral contract modification clauses without justified reason. Netflix Italy is subject to this rule.
2
Request the refund directly from NetflixGo to netflix.com/contactus or call support. State that you are requesting a refund for unilateral price/terms change under Art. 57 of the Italian Consumer Code. Specify the contested amount and the period. Note your ticket number.
Netflix often offers account credits instead of cash. You can insist on a cash refund — you are entitled to money back, not a voucher.
3
Request a chargeback from your bank or cardIf Netflix refuses or doesn't reply within 14 days, contact your bank or card issuer (Visa, Mastercard, AmEx). Request a chargeback for "service not as described". Attach Netflix's refusal and proof of the price/terms change.
A chargeback can be requested within 120 days of the disputed transaction on Visa/Mastercard. Debit card timeframes may vary.
4
File a complaint with AGCMIf direct routes failed, file a complaint with AGCM (Italian Competition Authority) via agcm.it → "Segnala". Name Netflix, describe the unfair commercial practice, and attach all documentation.
AGCM has already opened proceedings against major streaming platforms for unfair commercial practices in Italy.
5
Contact a consumer associationFor collective action or legal support, contact Altroconsumo (altroconsumo.it), Codacons (codacons.it) or Federconsumatori. They often handle class actions against major platforms and may support you for free or at reduced cost.
